The national advocacy campaign on solid waste management of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was finally unveiled in the figure of Pinas: Basura Buster on August 12, 2022 at the SM City Iloilo event center as part of the nationwide campaign to increase public awareness and encourage public support to government programs on environmental protection.

The said event kicked off with a message from the program partner, SM City Iloilo represented by the Assistant Mall Manager, Ms. Jasmin Linn Maquiling followed by the keynote message of DENR Assistant Secretary for Enforcement, Solid Waste Management, and Local Government Units Concerns, Atty. Daniel Darius Nicer, CESO II and the message of solidarity from the Office of the EMB Assistant Director, Ma. Delia Cristina Valdez.

The Solid Waste Management Section, Environmental Education and Information Unit of EMB and the Regional Strategic and Communications Initiatives Group of DENR 6 spearheaded the program which gave way to a better picture of solid waste management by providing a mascot to personify waste disposal lifestyle in the region by being the center of information, education, and communication on proper waste management as well as the model for effective and efficient strategies of local government units.

LGUs Ajuy, Iloilo and Bugasong, Antique were also in attendance to present their solid waste management programs namely Barter Basura Program and the Garbage in a Bottle Program respectively.

The ceremonial signing of the wall of commitment was then accomplished by LGUs, private organizations, government employees, and even some mall goers in attendance. Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 6 Regional Director, Atty. Ramar Niel V. Pascua wrapped up the event by thanking all who joined in the activity and pledged his commitment to better and strengthen enforcement of solid waste management in the region.
